Yogur de chocolate. Chocolate caliente a la taza
Hot chocolate with churros

In December I shot an ad campaign for Finish Quantum (dishwasher detergent) which it is now showing on TV. It is in Spanish, but in case you want to have a look a it, please find here the video. Considering I have been using Finish for the last years, it was an honor to be tracked down and offered a role in the new add, together with Spanish Chef Ada Parellada. I hope you like it, I loved the experience! The ad was directed by Maria Ripoll (you might know her from her film Tortilla soup)

And now, back to the recipe, which can be enjoyed hot, or cold. You can choose to have a delicious hot chocolate (for churros) or a creamy chocolate cold dessert, similar to yogurt (just similar, since there is no lactic ferment on it). Which one do you prefer?

Cold version of the recipe
Creamy chocolate “yogurt”

{Spanish hot chocolate and chocolate yogurt}

Summary: Hot chocolate recipe, Spanish style. Chill overnight, and get a creamy chocolate yogurt. Or reheat in the microwave for 30 sec to enjoy a hot chocolate whenever you want!

Preparation time: 5 minute(s)
Cooking time: 15 minute(s)

Number of servings (yield): 10

Ingredients

  • 250 g dark chocolate
  • 100 g sugar
  • 40 g cornstarch
  • 1 l milk
  • Optional: cinnamon powder, vanilla extract,..

Directions

  1. Whisk together cornstarch and 1/2 cup milk until smooth.
  2. Cook remaining milk and sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat until it boils.
  3. Whisk in chocolate and stir until smooth, whisking constantly
  4. Whisk in cornstarch mixture, and whisk until mixture thickens (mixture will thicken more as it cools.) Serve immediately with “churros”
  5. Alternatively, pour in yogurt pots, and keep in
the fridge for 24 hours. Next day you will get a delicious chocolate “yogurt”. If you prefer to enjoy it hot, you just have to reheat it in the microwave for about 45 seconds.

NOTES:

  • If it is your first time preparing this recipe, you should make a test to verify your ideal reheating time in the microwave. According to my experience, it might take from 30 sec to 1 minute to get your chocolate “yogurt” become a delicious hot chocolate. So try initially with 30 seconds, stir, and if necessary add 15 sec more. Stir once more, verify, and if it is not hot enough, add 10-15 more seconds in the microwave
