Black Forest Cake

{Black Forest Cake}

Prep time: 15 min

Cooking time: 30 min

Serves: 8-12 personas


    Chocolate Cake (6-7 inches pan):

  • 250 g all purpose flour
  • 250 g sugar
  • 75 g cocoa powder
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 ml milk
  • 125 ml vegetable oil
  • 125 ml water, hot
  • Filling:

  • 200 g cherry jam
  • 200 g berries
  • 250 ml heavy cream, very cold
  • 2 tbs sugar
  • Chocolate frosting:

  • 200 g heavy cream
  • 200 g chocolate, 55% cocoa, chopped
  • 75 g butter
  • Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 180 ºC (350 º F). Mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, vanilla, cocoa, and baking powder. Add in the eggs, and beat until combined. Finally add hot water and mix until combined
    2. Bake in a prepared pan for 45-60 minutes. Remove from the oven, let cool for about 10 minutes, and unmold on a wire rack. Let it cool completely
    3. When cold, whip cream with sugar until soft peaks form
    4. Prepare then the chocolate ganache. Heat heavy cream, and then remove from heat. Add in chopped chocolate, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and whisk until smooth. Add butter, and stir until combined. Reserve
    5. Cut cake in two. Place the first cake layer on a serving platter or cake stand. Spread a layer of cherry jam on top. Then add a thick layer of the whipped cream. Place some of the berries over the cream. Then place the second cake layer over the first. Top with ganache. Decorate with fresh berries and serve

    It might look nice, but it is far from being a black forest cake! Not even close! If you really want a black forest cake (schwartzwaelder Kirschtorte) I suggest googeling for the German Original. We do not put berries in it and definitely no cherry jam. We use real cherries.

    What happens with the milk and vegetable oil? It is missing from the recipe but in the ingredients list?
